Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Day 41 King)
Authority of the King
"Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.” ~ Mark 11:23
Dear Christian Mentor,
I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?
Dear Mentee,
After cursing the barren fig tree on Monday, Jesus returns to Jerusalem on Tuesday, and His disciples notice the withered fig tree. Jesus uses the barren fig tree as an object lesson. He points to it—and even to the mountains around them—as examples of the obstacles we all face: hardened hearts, misplaced priorities, religious performance, and human pride.
But then Jesus shifts their understanding. He teaches that true authority is not found in outward religion or structure—it is rooted in faith. A faith that is not passive, but active. A faith that speaks. A faith that believes without wavering.
Jesus has all authority, and through Him, we are invited to live with that same confidence in God. Not confidence in ourselves, but in the power and faithfulness of the One we trust. The kind of faith Jesus describes is not about controlling outcomes—it’s about being so aligned with God’s heart that we trust Him completely, even when the “mountains” feel immovable.
Sometimes our mountains are fear, doubt, unforgiveness, or circumstances that seem too heavy to carry. Jesus reminds us that these mountains are not permanent. When we place our faith in God—fully, boldly, and without hesitation—we begin to see His power at work in ways we could never accomplish on our own.
This is the authority of the King: not force, not control, but unwavering faith in the Father. And He invites us into it.
Today’s Promise: God responds to faith that is rooted in trust and aligned with His will. What feels impossible to you is never impossible for Him. When you believe and do not doubt, you position your heart to witness His power at work.
Application Questions:
What “mountain” in your life feels impossible to move right now?
Where has doubt crept into your faith?
What would it look like to trust God fully in this situation?
Are your prayers aligned with God’s will, or are they driven by fear or control?
Today’s Fast: Fast from doubt and self-reliance.
When you feel uncertainty rise, pause and replace it with prayer. Speak truth over your situation. Instead of focusing on the size of the mountain, fix your eyes on the greatness of God. Choose to trust Him—again and again.
