Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent?(Day14)
Weariness
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” ~ Matthew 11:28
Dear Christian Mentor,
I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?
Dear Mentee,
When you hear the word weariness, what happens in your body?
Where do you feel the tension?
What thoughts begin to surface?
The pressure of responsibilities.
The quiet expectations we place on ourselves.
The striving to do more, be more, fix more.
Weariness is not just physical exhaustion. It is soul-fatigue.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus extends an invitation—not a command, not a rebuke, but an invitation:
“Come to Me.”
He does not say, “Come once you’ve figured it out.”
He does not say, “Come after you have tried everything.”
He says, “Come.”
And He promises rest.
Jesus tells us how to respond to His invitation:
Take My yoke upon you (Matthew 11:29): A yoke implies partnership. It means you were never meant to carry life alone.
Learn from Me (Matthew 11:29): Spend time learning and growing in your relationship with Christ. God will give you help and discernment for the burden you carry.
You will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:29): This rest does not mean the removal of every burden. It means the restoration of your soul in the midst of them.
My yoke is easy, and My burden is light (Matthew 11:30): When we live yoked to Christ, the weight shifts. The striving softens. The pressure eases.
Today’s Promise: Jesus does not desire a life defined by chronic striving and spiritual exhaustion. He invites you into relational rest. Rest that is rooted in trust, surrender, and dependence.
Application: Set aside intentional time today to sit quietly before the Lord.
Ask yourself:
What burdens am I carrying that Jesus never asked me to hold?
Where am I striving in self-reliance rather than surrender?
What would it look like to trust Him with this?
Today’s Fast: Fast from striving.
When you notice yourself gripping control, consciously release it in prayer. Lay what feels heavy at the feet of Jesus—and resist the temptation to pick it back up.
