Dear Mentor, How do I shift my focus from difficult situations to God?
When I Put My Trust Elsewhere
“The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.” ~ Psalm 11:4
Dear Christian Mentor,
At times, I find myself in situations that seem overwhelming. I think if I had more money, a better career, connections, or were younger, I could fix this situation, and things would be better. “How do I shift from trusting what I can see and control to truly trusting God when my circumstances feel overwhelming?”
Dear Mentee,
Shifting our viewpoint helps us understand the difference between LOOKING and SEEING. When we are merely 'looking' at the surface of our situation, we are focusing solely on the problems, difficulties, unknowns, and impossibles. Looking is simply the act of acknowledging the presence of something or someone. On the other hand, seeing requires patience and openness to truly grasp its purpose and meaning. When we only look at the problem, we prevent ourselves from 'SEEING' that something more significant is happening within and beyond our situation. In these moments, we need to shift our focus and 'SEE' God's provision and promise to care for us. In Psalm 20:6-7, we witness David making a conscious decision to SEE God in the midst of his battle against his enemy. David proclaimed his faith in the Lord over the resources that could have aided him in his battle, his chariots, and horses. When we trust in God rather than our circumstances and rely on God, not just on our resources, people, or ourselves, our lives become a testament, like David's, to the transformative power of faith and trust in God.
Today's Promise: The Lord gives victory to those who put their trust in Him.
Application: What are you focusing on, and where are you putting your trust?
