Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Awareness)

Awareness

"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according ot your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” ~ Psalm 51:1-2

Dear Christian Mentor,

I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?

Dear Mentee,

As we enter this first week of Lent, we begin not with striving, but with awareness. Today, we gently lean into the light of God’s presence and allow Him to reveal what is truly happening in our hearts. In Psalms 51, David prays a prayer of repentance—not polished, not defensive, but deeply aware. Notice his posture. David does not minimize his sin. He does not blame others. He appeals to God’s mercy. He asks for a clean heart, not just changed circumstances.

Before change comes clarity. Before renewal comes honesty.

Fast: Today, fast from the urge to “fix” anything immediately. Simply observe with the Lord. Invite Him to search you. Trust that what He reveals, He is willing to heal.

Today’s Promise: The Lord makes us aware of areas in our lives that need to change, while also restoring our souls.

Application: Ask the Lord to reveal the true condition of my heart.

  • Read Psalm 51.

  • Where am I distracted? What consumes my mental space more than the Lord does

  • Where am I weary? Is there a burden or situation that is exhausting me?

  • How am I distant from the Lord? What does my daily walk with the Lord really look like?
