Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent?(Day11)

Encouragement

"But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called 'Today,' so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” ~ Hebrews 3:13

Dear Christian Mentor,

I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?

Dear Mentee,

On this day of Lent, we will practice stewarding the tone of our words. From negativity to shortness, from sarcasm to genuine encouragement—our words reveal the condition of our hearts.

Hebrews 3:13 reminds us: “Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Scripture places urgency on the present moment—today matters.

Today, your friends may face discouragement.
Today, your spouse may wrestle with doubt.
Today, your children may battle insecurity.
Today, someone you love will quietly struggle with temptation.

The enemy seeks to distort truth and sow deception. But encouragement—spoken with sincerity, accountability, and grace—becomes a safeguard. When we speak life, we help redirect hearts toward God’s truth and away from sin’s subtle lies.

Application: A Heart Check on Our Words

  • Where have my words carried negativity?

  • When have I responded with impatience or shortness?

  • Has sarcasm masked irritation and wounded someone I love?

  • Who specifically needs affirmation, accountability, or support from me today?

Today’s Promise: When we encourage others daily, we participate in God’s preserving work—helping those we love remain tender to truth and resistant to deception.

Today’s Fast: Fast from a negative, sharp, or sarcastic tone.

Before speaking, pause and pray:
“Lord, let my words strengthen, not diminish.”

Then take intentional action:

  • Send a message of affirmation.

  • Speak gratitude aloud at home.

  • Offer calm correction instead of criticism.

  • Pray for someone before responding to them.
