Dear Christian Mentor,
I am finding it difficult to be grateful lately. I know God has been good to me, but I spend more time thinking about what is missing in my life, what isn't going the way I hoped, and what I wish were different. How can I shift my perspective and become more intentional about recognizing God's goodness, especially when life feels difficult?
Dear Mentee,
Gratitude begins when we intentionally turn our attention to who God is, rather than letting our circumstances determine our perspective. God's goodness is not dependent on whether life is going the way we hoped. He is good when life is beautiful, and He remains good when life is difficult.
Psalm 107:1 reminds us, “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever” (KJV).
When we take time to remember His goodness, we begin to recognize the ways He has been present, faithful, and merciful in our lives. Sometimes His goodness is found in answered prayers, and other times it is found in the strength He gives us to walk through unanswered ones.
Don't allow what is missing to overshadow what God has already provided. Take a moment today to reflect on where you have experienced His goodness. Gratitude doesn't require a perfect life; it simply invites us to recognize a faithful God.
A Question to Reflect On:
Where have you experienced God's goodness recently, and how can remembering His faithfulness change the way you view your current circumstances?
