Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Remembrance)

Remembrance

"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me.” ~ Luke 22:19

Dear Christian Mentor,

I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?

Dear Mentee,

Today is Maundy Thursday of Holy Week, the night when Jesus and His disciples shared the Last Supper. This was not just a final meal; it was a sacred and deeply intentional moment. Jesus sat at the table fully aware of what the next twenty-four hours would bring—the betrayal by Judas, the denial and desertion of His closest friends, and the suffering of the cross. Yet even in the face of overwhelming sorrow, Jesus chose to love, to serve, and to give.

He knelt to wash the dusty feet of His disciples, demonstrating humility and grace—serving even Judas, who would soon betray Him. Then He took the bread and broke it, symbolizing His body that would be given. He took the cup, representing His blood that would be poured out, and established a new covenant—one that would forever bridge the gap between God and humanity.

In this sacred moment, Jesus gave a simple yet powerful command: “Do this in remembrance of me.”

Remembrance is more than recalling a past event—it is an intentional returning of our hearts to the reality of Christ’s love, sacrifice, and presence. It is choosing to pause and reflect, to bring to mind not only what He has done, but what He is still doing. Remembrance invites us out of routine and into relationship. It anchors us in truth when life feels uncertain and refocuses our hearts on what matters most.

As we move into this Easter weekend, we are invited to remember fully. To remember the cross, the sacrifice, and the depth of His love, but also to remember His faithfulness in our own lives. The ways He has carried us, provided for us, forgiven us, and drawn us near. And we remember with hope, knowing that His work is not finished and that He is still moving, still restoring, and still making all things new.

When we live with remembrance, our faith becomes alive. Gratitude replaces obligation, and intimacy with Christ begins to grow naturally.

Today’s Promise:
When you intentionally remember Christ's sacrifice, faithfulness, and presence, you will discover that He is not distant, but near. He meets you in the remembering, renewing your heart with peace, gratitude, and deeper intimacy with Him.

Application Questions:

  • When you reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice, what stirs in your heart personally?

  • Where have you seen Christ at work in your life recently?

  • What is one intentional way you can pause today to remember Him and draw near?

Today’s Fast:
Fast from distraction and hurry. Set aside intentional time today to slow down and remember Jesus. Whether during a meal, in prayer, or in quiet stillness, reflect on His body given and His blood shed for you. Allow this time to move beyond routine and become a moment of genuine connection and gratitude.
