Dear Christian Mentor,
I sometimes feel like I am waiting for something big or exciting to happen before I can feel truly grateful. I want to see prayers answered, experience breakthroughs, or have something wonderful happen in my life. In the meantime, I often overlook the simple, everyday blessings around me. How can I become more intentional about recognizing and appreciating the little things God places in my life?
Dear Mentee,
Sometimes we become so focused on the big things we are praying for that we overlook the many small blessings God has already placed in our everyday lives. Not every blessing arrives in an extraordinary way. Sometimes God's goodness is found in a conversation, a warm meal, a beautiful sunrise, a friend's encouragement, or a moment of laughter.
James 1:17 reminds us, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (KJV).
Every good gift, whether big or small, is an opportunity to recognize God's goodness. When we slow down and become more intentional about noticing these moments, our perspective begins to change. We start to see that our days are filled with reminders of His provision, kindness, and love.
Gratitude is not just about celebrating the extraordinary moments in life. It is also about learning to appreciate the ordinary ones. A grateful heart doesn't wait for something amazing to happen before giving thanks. It recognizes God's goodness in the everyday moments we might otherwise take for granted.
Today, slow down and look around you. Pay attention to the simple blessings that bring joy, encouragement, and peace. They are gifts worth celebrating.
A Question to Reflect On:
What are three little things you experienced today that brought you joy? Have you taken time to thank God for them?
