Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Day 7)
Fear
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10
Dear Christian Mentor,
I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?
Dear Mentee,
Today in our Lenten journey, we are going to a deep and tender place — the place of fear. Fear is one of the strongest spiritual strongholds we carry. It quietly shapes our decisions, limits our obedience, and shrinks our faith.
In Isaiah 41:10, the Lord speaks directly into fear:
Do not be afraid.
Do not be discouraged.
I am with you.
I will strengthen you.
I will help you.
I will uphold you.
Notice the repetition of I will.
Your security is not in your strength — it is in His presence.
Today’s Promise:
When we are afraid, we must remember:
God is bigger than what threatens us.
He is stronger than what intimidates us.
He is present in what overwhelms us.
And He is always victorious.
Application:
What are some of your greatest fears?
How have these fears shaped my decisions?
In what ways do my fears limit obedience, risk, or trust?
How have I allowed fear to have more influence over me than God’s promises?
Fast: Today’s fast is not from food — it is from fear’s control.
Each time fear rises:
Pause.
Speak Isaiah 41:10 aloud.
Replace the fearful thought with God’s promise.
