Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent?(Day16)

Blessings

"It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ~ Acts 20:35

Dear Christian Mentor,

I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?

Dear Mentee,

If we pause and look back on our lives, it might take longer than we expect to count the ways the Lord has blessed us. His blessings appear in tangible forms — relationships, provision, opportunities, and daily mercies. They also appear in ways we may not immediately recognize — unanswered prayers that protect us, seasons of hardship that refine us, and quiet moments where He sustains us unseen. Above all, we hold the blessing of eternal life through Christ.

When we become aware of how much we have received, gratitude naturally shifts us outward. Lent is not merely about surrendering something; it is about reordering our hearts. It is about loosening our grip so our hands are free to bless others.

Giving does not always mean financial generosity. It may look like:

  • Offering encouragement when someone feels unseen.

  • Extending forgiveness when resentment feels justified.

  • Making space to listen when your schedule feels full.

  • Serving quietly without recognition.

  • Praying faithfully for someone who is weary.

Generosity is ultimately a posture of the heart — a reflection of Christ Himself.

Today’s Promise:
Throughout our lives, God continues to provide what we truly need. As recipients of His grace, we are invited to extend this grace to others.

Application:
Take time to reflect prayerfully:

  • In what areas of your life is it difficult to give your time, your energy, your forgiveness, your trust?

  • How has someone been a blessing to you in a season when you needed it most?

  • Who in your life is currently struggling? What specific, practical step can you take to bless them this week?

Today’s Fast:
Fast from consuming or holding tightly to something — possessions, comfort, control, recognition — and ask the Lord to show you where He is inviting you to give instead.

Lent draws us back to the heart of Christ. The One who gave everything for us now shapes us into people who give freely.
