Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Day20)

Help

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” ~ Psalms 121:1-2

Dear Christian Mentor,

I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?

Dear Mentee,

Have you ever reached the point where you cry out to God for help?

On this side of heaven, we will all face difficult and sometimes overwhelming situations. Sickness, loss, broken relationships, uncertainty, and fear can leave us searching for answers. In those moments, we often need more than a quick fix or helpful advice—we need true help.

In Psalm 121, the psalmist asks a powerful question: Where does my help come from? As we read further, we discover that our help comes from the One who is greater than every challenge we face.

Psalm 121:2 — Our help comes from the Lord.
“My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
The same God who created the heavens and the earth is the One who helps us.

Psalm 121:3 — God keeps us steady.
“He will not let your foot slip.”
When life feels uncertain, God is the one who holds us firm.

Psalm 121:4 — God never stops watching over us.
“He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
Unlike us, God never grows tired or distracted. His care for us is constant.

Psalm 121:5–6 — God protects us.
“The Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.”
In every circumstance—day or night—God remains our protector.

Psalm 121:7–8 — God watches over our lives.
“The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
God’s care for us is not temporary. His watchful presence is with us always.

Today’s Promise: When we need help, we should lift our eyes to the Lord, who is our constant and faithful help.

Application:

Where do you tend to seek help before turning to the Lord?

What areas of your life are you crying out to God for help right now?

Who is someone in your life that you can be a source of help to today?

Today’s Fast:

Fast from relying solely on your own strength or solutions. Each time worry arises, lift your eyes to the Lord and pray, remembering that your help comes from Him.
