Dear Christian Mentor, Can you walk with me through Lent? (Day 27)
What Do People See
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” ~ Matthew 5:14
Dear Christian Mentor,
I have participated in Lent many times, but it often feels like something I should do rather than an experience that draws me closer to the Lord. Can you walk with me through the season of Lent?
Dear Mentee,
In today’s verse, we are reminded that we are the light of the world. This light is not our own, but it is the light of Christ shining through us. When we walk closely with Him, His love, grace, and truth naturally shine through our lives.
Light is meant to be seen. A lamp is not lit to be hidden, and a city on a hill cannot be concealed. In the same way, our faith is meant to be lived openly so that others who are struggling, searching, or walking in darkness can see the hope of Christ through us.
During Lent, we often focus on what we are giving up, but this season can also be an invitation to reflect on how we are living out the light of Christ. When we choose kindness, patience, forgiveness, humility, and love, we illuminate the path toward Him for others.
Your life—your words, actions, and the way you respond to challenges—can point people toward Christ more than you may realize. Even small moments of faithfulness can shine brightly in a world that often feels dark.
Lent is a beautiful time to ask the Lord to refine our hearts so that His light shines even more clearly through us.
Today’s Promise: Jesus calls us to reflect His light so that those who are walking in darkness may see Him through our lives.
Application Questions:
When others look at my life, do they see the light of Christ in the way I speak and act?
Are there situations where I tend to hide my faith rather than live it openly?
Who in my life might need to experience the light of Christ through encouragement, kindness, or support today?
Today’s Fast:
Fast from hiding your faith or holding back encouragement. Instead, intentionally share the light of Christ through a kind word, prayer, or act of love toward someone today.
